Ajay - On the Road called Life!: I’m “Flickr”ing, how about you? » Ajay - On the Road called Life

    Ajay,

One of the options that was left off (probably due to the fact that it is a more recent product) is ZenPhoto. I realize that it requires you to host your photos on your own website but I have enjoyed the fact that you can upload photos via FTP, archives (or zip folders if you prefer) or the more standard web-based upload. I have it available on my website by clicking on the Photos tab.

It sounds like this might not be the right option for you, but I thought many of your readers might find it to be of value to them.

Looks good, but I was looking to not host the images myself. I have all my photos on a single folder and then backed up as well on another drive so I'm not worried about that.

But, I will admit that zenphoto looks good.

For what it's worth, I ended up at ZP when Flickr angered me a month or two ago with their user accounts changes. I had been a Flickrer for a couple of years at that point and got sick of the changes post-Yahoo. Not that Yahoo is bad, and I realize that big companies eat little companies and make changes, it just got to be too much for me personally.

Please note that I do like Flickr. :-)

Funny as it may sound, the reason I'm comfortable with Flickr is because Yahoo! took them over!

What are the changes that took place because of the takeover? except for the the userid login? I linked my Flickr account the moment Yahoo! took it over.

I use a great flickr plugin (WordPress Flickr Photo Album plugin) that allows me to use random photos in my sidebar and presents a very nice photos page broken down by category. It even adds the one group I belong to.

    From the plugin site:
"The WordPress Flickr Photo Album plugin will pull in your Flickr photosets and display them as albums on your WordPress site. There is a pretty simple template provided, but you can customize the templates 100% to match the look and feel of your own site."

    The plugin is available here:

I think Thomas Hawk summed it up best here. I think, for me, I got sick of slowly encroaching limits that were creeping in on free users. I guess I could have paid money for the service, but that defeated the purpose for me. So I deleted my pictures and account instead.

@Michael, Thanks for the link Michael, the plugin looks good. Am going to give it a shot and see how this works out :)

@Dean, wow, great move ... Made perfect sense if you didn't want to pay. The Flickr free account sucks big time!

Now, I'm thinking of Flickr Pro as alternative to my Gallery2. I'm having much space constraint with my Gallery2 installation. If flickr pro has the ability to extend it to my domain. I would very well think about moving.... let me know your feedback with Flickr...
  • Ajay · 2 years ago
So far I love Flickr Pro. Yup, I like the idea of mapping the gallery to the domain. No service offers that yes, but that would be the ultimate!

I guess there are not enough photos for me to start up on flickr'ing anytime soon. But well, this is one thing to add to the "future plans" list. Gallery, I feel was a bit heavy. I was appalled by the size after decompressing it

Hey there guys - perhaps you can edumacate me on this here photo thingy... I cannot understand what practical use it has... is it for family and friends only, or are there some of you using flicker for business purposes?
  • Ajay · 2 years ago
It's about maintaining an online photo album. Great if you want people to view your photographs.

I wouldn't recommend using it for business use, unless you can integrate Flickr perfectly into your blog.

BTW, you need to write to Akismet. It keeps flagging you as spam, which is why you're comments land up in moderation.

    Ajay,

This is a quite interesting online application that allows you to integrate Flickr within your site. Hope you would love it. http://design.tedforbes.com/

I'm gonna try this out in another month or so after upgrading to PRO..
